W96th street ruby headed girl pt. 2

Days passed and he hadn’t seen her again. Days turned into weeks and still nothing. Until one day, on his commute back home from work, he saw her. Him at one end of the car and her entering from the other. Her signature ruby hair made an appearance as she hopped quickly onto the train, as to not miss it, and removed her hood. Anthony’s eyes lit up and he couldn’t believe the universe had brought them back together again. Anthony didn’t believe in miracles or chance, but whatever this was, he knew he had to seize it. He started to make his way down the car to finally ask what he was too scared to ask weeks prior, when he saw a man run in at the last minute right behind her. He was tall, taller than Anthony, and very well dressed. As well-dressed as she was, making it clear that they complimented each other very nicely. He stopped and watched them for a second, observing their interaction.

“Please be her brother.” he thought to himself. “Or at least please be gay?”

But when he stood behind her with one hand on the pole and the other around her waist, he knew that his wishful thinking was in vain. He couldn’t believe it, but at the same time, he wasn't surprised.

“Of course she’s in a relationship.” He thought. “She’s an amazing woman, and I figured that in 25 minutes. I’m just glad I didn’t embarrass myself the last time, thinking I actually had a chance.”

Even though he had accepted the facts that stood before him, it was still a hard pill to swallow. Anthony held onto the pole and faced the subway doors as they pulled into the station. As the train slowed he looked back for one last glance and as he did, she looked up from her phone and their eyes met, he waved politely and she, shocked, did the same before Anthony was gone.
